KINYAN CHALIPIN - literally, triggering ownership by handing an unrelated object (e.g. a handkerchief) from the Koneh to the Makneh. Since this process is not well understood, we will provide a thorough understanding of how exactly this Kinyan works, and the lomdus behind it.

This type of Kinyan was very common in earlier times (Megilas Rus 4:7-8) and therefore referenced many times throughout Shas. To this day, this form of Kinyan is used at engagements, weddings and when selling chometz.
