This sugya explores the Mitzvah of eating Matzoh. We begin by analyzing the various Pesukim in the Torah that mention the obligation of eating Matzoh on Pesach (i.e. “Shivas Yamim Tochlu Matzos”). It is common knowledge that eating matzah on the first night of Pesach is a kiyum of a Mitzvas Aseh Min Hatorah (possibly the only Mitzvah of achila min-Hatorah in today’s times). However, what about the rest of the days of Pesach? Does one fulfill a Mitzvah when he eats Matzah on the rest of the days of Pesach, even if he is not obligated to do so?
Additional related topics discussed:
Bracha on Achilas Matzah - Why do we say the B'racha of "Leisheiv Ba’Sukkah" on all seven days of Sukkos, while we only say the Bracha of Achilas Matzah at the seder?
Tefillin on Chol Hamoed - On Shabbos and Yom Tov one is exempt from Tefillin, because the Mitzvos of those days constitute the “ois” (in place of the ois of Tefillin). However, because there is no positive chiyuv of achilas Matzah on Chol Hamoed Pesach, those days may not provide the ois – therefore, one may be required to wear Tefillin.
