One of the aspects of Maamad Har Sinai was an act of Geirus, and indeed Chazal learn many facets of the Geirus process from Ma'amad Har Sinai. In order to understand the Geirus of Matan Torah, we must first understand what the status of Klal Yisroel was before Matan Torah (i.e. as it pertained to Kiyum Mitzvos), or if they were even considered a nation at all. We discuss intriguing debates amongst the Rishonim regarding this topic. When Avraham was given the Mitzvah of Bris Milah, that covenant created the Jewish nation. If so, what changed with Matan Torah?
