This sugya explores the prohibition of Shochad (bribery).  There are three places in the Torah where a Dayan is warned not to accept Shochad. Chazal teach us that this prohibition applies even when the bribery is given to acquit the innocent party or convict the guilty party.

The Poskim debate as to whether this prohibition applies to giving Shochad to a Ben Noach - who is also commanded to establish Batei Dinim and to ensure a justice system. Even within this debate, there is further discussion amongst the poskim as to whether to distinguish between giving Shochad to a Ben Noach to skew justice, and giving Shochad to ensure that justice is served.
