In our previous sugya, we discussed the general concept of “making kiddush”, which is a fulfillment of the fourth of the Aseres Hadibros - “Zachor es yom hashabbos lekadsho”, lit. "Remember the day of Shabbos by making it Kadosh". This week’s sugya discusses the manner in which one is Mekadesh Shabbos.
The universally accepted method of Kiddush is to be
recited over a cup of wine. What does wine have to do with remembering?
Some questions discussed:
- Is
the mitzvah to recite Kiddush over a cup of wine, or is the mitzvah to
actually drink the wine?
- What
about making Kiddush on challah?
- Can
one fulfill his basic Kiddush obligation (sans wine) during Maariv
where the Kedusha of Shabbos is mentioned?
- Is
it recommended that one have in mind to not be Yotzeh Kiddush during
Tefillah in order to be able to later fulfill the mitzvah with wine,
as preferred by Chazal?
- If
a woman did not daven Maariv, can she hear Kiddush from one who was
already Yotzeh Kiddush during Tefillah?
- When
Yom Kippur falls on Shabbos, should one have in mind to be Yotzeh Kiddush
during Tefillas Maariv?
- Yetzias
Mitzrayim is mentioned during Kiddush. What’s the connection to
Shabbos?
