This first sugya of Kiddush focuses on the essence of Kiddush.  It’s something that we do every week - but what does “making Kiddush” actually mean?

The fourth commandment of the Aseres hadibros states that one must remember the day of Shabbos.  How does one “remember” the Shabbos?  Chazal explain that this is done by reciting Kiddush.

• ·         Does “remembering” Shabbos mean to mention the uniqueness of Shabbos, or does it mean to also mention the holiness of Shabbos and its distinct difference from the rest of the days of the week?
