This Sugya discusses the Mitzvah of Chinuch. A parent’s inborn
nature is to want to educate their child so that they can grow up to become
a productive member of society. As
Yidden, we are in fact obligated to do so. What is the exact source of this obligation? We find multiple examples in the Torah where the
concept of Chinuch Ha’bonim is referenced:
Avrohom Avinu teaching his children, the commandment to bring children to Hakhel,
and many more.
This Sugya discusses the exact source for this chiyuv. Once we have determined the source, various
practical ramifications arise, which are discussed at length. Some of the questions addressed include:
- ·
Is it a chiuyv to teach one’s
child to perform Mitzvos Aseh?
- ·
Is teaching them to refrain
from doing Aveiros also included in the Mitzvah of Chinuch?
- ·
Are daughters included in
the Mitzvah of Chinuch?
- ·
Why don’t we say “Baruch Shepatrani”
on daughters when they reach the age of
Bas Mitzvah?
- ·
Are mothers also obligated
in the Mitzvah of Chinuch?
- In addition to teaching one’s child about each individual mitzvah, is a parent also obligated to teach their child to live their life in accordance with the ways of the Torah?
