The 30-Day Exemption
The Torah obligates one to mount a Mezuzah on the doorposts
of “your” house (i.e. beisecha).
How do we define one’s “place of residence”? Does it depend on ownership of the home,
temporary residence, a rental home? What
are the Halachic requirements for each type of residence – one’s home, summer
home, rented bungalow, hotel room, storage units, vacation rental, chesed
apartment, etc?
- ·
Is a temporary residence considered
similar to a Tallis, where one does not make a Bracha if he borrows a Tallis to
wear?
- ·
Even if a rental is not
considered ownership, the renter is still required to watch and protect it – so
should he therefore be obligated to place a Mezuzah?
- ·
Why does a renter need to
wait thirty days before putting up Mezuzos?
- ·
If someone is in a rehab facility
or hospitalized for an extended period of time, is he obligated to have a Mezuzah
on the door to his room?
- ·
Why is one obligated to place
a Mezuzah on the doorposts of a rental in Eretz Yisroel immediately and not
wait 30 days (Yishuv Ha’aretz)?
- ·
What is the significance of
the count of thirty days?
- · Does a mobile home require a Mezuzah?
- How about a shul?
